Philadelphia Phillies Sign Left-Handed Pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies add some more pitching depth.

The Phillies have signed pitcher Ben Bowden to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.

Bowden split last season between the San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays and the Colorado Rockies. However, he only played in a major league game for the Rockies, recording an ugly 6.56 ERA, 1.82 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts over 35.2 innings of work and 39 appearances.

He then spent the rest of the season at the Triple-A level, posting an equally ugly 5.46 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, with 76 strikeouts over 57.2 innings and 50 appearances.

The Phillies will give Bowden a chance to earn a spot this spring on the team's Opening Day roster.

The left-handed pitcher is a former second-round pick of the Rockies in the 2016 MLB Draft.
