Kansas City Royals Sign Super Utility Player

A solid addition for the Kansas City Royals

The Royals have signed 1B/OF Matt Beaty to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.

Beaty was limited to just 20 games last season in his San Diego Padres debut due to a left shoulder injury that he suffered at the beginning of May. He finished his season going just 4-for-43 at the plate, with a double, a triple and an RBI.

The twenty-nine-year-old offers defensive versatility, capable of playing first base and both corner outfield positions.

For his major-league career, Beaty holds a respectable .249/.320/.725 triple slash line, with 18 home runs, 92 RBIs, seven stolen bases and 85 runs scored over 603 plate appearances.

He'll compete for a spot this spring on the Royals' Opening Day roster.
