Chicago Cubs Designate Pitcher For Assignment

With the team signing Julian Merryweather, someone had to be removed from the 40-man roster.

Unfortunately for him, Manny Rodriguez was that someone, as the Chicago Cubs have designated him for assignment.

Over the last two seasons in the majors, Rodriguez posted a pedestrian 4.88 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts over 31.1 innings of work. He made 34 relief appearances, converted five saves and held a 5-3 record.

For his minor league career, the twenty-six-year-old has a 4.01 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and 271 strikeouts over 213.1 innings.

Rodriguez has good stuff and with the proper development, he could be a reliable bullpen arm. He should definitely generate some interest on the waiver wire.
