Boston Red Sox Designate Hard-Throwing Pitcher For Assignment

The Boston Red Sox needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster following the trade that sent Matt Barnes to the Miami Marlins in exchange for Richard Bleier.

As a result, the Red Sox have designated pitcher Franklin German for assignment.

The hard-throwing right-handed pitcher spent most of last season at Triple-A Worcester where he posted a strong 2.58 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts over 38.1 innings of work.

For his minor-league career, the twenty-five-year-old holds a 3.93 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 264 strikeouts over 245.1 innings. He's made 41 starts, 56 relief appearances and converted 10 saves, so there's some nice versatility there.

Franklin should definitely attract attention on the waiver wire.

He is a former fourth-round pick by the New York Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft.
