Blue Jays Designate Pitcher For Assignment; Claimed Him Off Waivers A Week Ago

That didn't take long.

After being claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees last week, the Toronto Blue Jays have designated pitcher Junior Fernandez for assignment.

The flame-throwing pitcher posted a strong 2.41 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts over 18.2 innings of work last season with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unfortunately, the twenty-five-year-old has dealt with command issues his whole career, so that will be something the Blue Jays will have to work with.

In the minors last season, Fernandez posted a 4.87 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts across 44.1 innings of work.

There will likely be some interest in Fernandez on the waiver wire.
