Philadelphia Phillies Release Veteran Pitcher

Done with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies have released pitcher Vinny Nittoli.

Nittoli was designated for assignment earlier this month by the Phillies after finalizing a contract with closer Craig Kimbrel. They also acquired pitcher Erich Uelmen from the Chicago Cubs in a trade.

Nittoli made a pair of scoreless relief appearances last season for the Phillies, the first innings he had pitched in the majors. In addition, he posted a solid 3.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts across 52 innings at the Triple-A level.

For his minor-league career, the thirty-two-year-old holds a 4.45 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 274 strikeouts over 251 innings.

The veteran right-handed pitcher should generate some interest on the waiver wire.
