MLB Rumors: 2 New Teams Added To Carlos Rodon Chase

Carlos Rodon is one of three elite arms on the free agent market, and his list of suitors continues to grow. We know that the incumbent San Francisco Giants would like him back and that the Texas Rangers have emerged as one of the "most serious" teams in the bidding, but the Hot Stove today has revealed two more teams that are showing interest.

One of them, per Insider Jon Heyman, the Los Angeles Dodgers, isn't much of a surprise. They're in need of another legit ace-like arm at the top of their rotation in 2023, with Walker Buehler expected to miss most or all of the year recovering from Tommy John surgery, and Tyler Anderson gone to the Los Angeles Angels in free agency. And of course, they're always ready to spend.

The Minnesota Twins, though, would be more of a surprise entrant to the Rodon Sweepstakes. Dan Hayes and Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic ponder about how likely it is for the Twins to land Rodon. With the pitcher's price expected to approach or even possibly surpass the $150M range, we wonder if the Twins will be comfortable playing in that tax bracket.

After the Chicago White Sox failed to make Rodon a qualifying offer at the end of 2021, he fled in free agency to the Giants, who gave him a 2-year, $44M deal with an opt-out. After Rodon proved himself healthy and posted another All-Star campaign with a 2.88 ERA and 237 strikeouts in 178 innings, he naturally chose to re-enter free agency.

Now he'll get a chance possibly triple that $44M total this winter.
