MLB Rule 5 Draft Set For November 15

The Rule 5 draft is November 15 this year.

That means the deadline for teams to add players to their 40-man rosters is also Nov. 15.

Because there was no Rule 5 draft last season, teams will have more players to protect than other years, resulting in some roster crunches.

Some teams may also be forced to cut players from their 40-man rosters ahead of Nov. 18's non-tender deadline, in addition to making a trade as seen with the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves on Sunday when Sam Hilliard was sent over to Atlanta.

Because these dates are earlier than normal, there will be plenty more winter moves happening in the first week of the offseason than in normal years, although most will be minor ones.
