Padres Place Starter on IL

He was supposed to make an abbreviated start in Wednesday's regular-season finale against the San Francisco Giants, but that obviously won't happen now.

The San Diego Padres have placed starter Mike Clevinger on the injured list with an illness.
It's unclear what his status is in general with the postseason set to get underway in just a few days. The Padres will face the New York Mets in a best-of-three series in New York.

The timing of the illness is obviously poor and might put Clevinger's roster spot for the WCS roster in jeopardy. However, he was not going to start until the NLDS at the earliest anyways, and the Padres have quite a few length options in their bullpen.

Clevinger finishes his 2022 regular season with an underwhelming 4.33 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 91 strikeouts over 114 innings of work. In 22 starts, the thirty-one-year-old has posted a 7-7 record.
