Royals Recall Pitcher; Option Reliever

The Kansas City Royals have recalled their 16th-ranked prospect. 

The club has recalled pitcher Max Castillo for a Sunday start against the Detroit Tigers. 

In a corresponding move, Wyatt Mills has been optioned.
Castillo threw 4.2 innings of two-run baseball, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out five. 

It's not yet clear if the the twenty-three-year-old rookie will stick around with the big league club following the start. In the minors this season, Castillo has posted a solid 3.29 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 75 strikeouts over 68 innings. He holds a 6-2 record and in 15 appearances he's started 12 games. 

In the major leagues, Castillo has been even better, registering a 2.97 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 28 strikeouts over 30 innings. In 11 games, he's made four starts. 

The Royals acquired Castillo in the deal that sent Whit Merrifield to the Toronto Blue Jays.

With Castillo getting the call to start on Sunday, someone needed to be optioned to make room on the roster. 

As a result, the Royals sent pitcher Wyatt Mills down to Triple-A Omaha. 

The twenty-seven year old has thrown a 4.60 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26 strikeouts over 29 innings in the majors this season.
