Rays Activate Pitcher; Recall Infielder Impressing in the Minors

The Tampa Bay Rays are getting yet another good arm back.

The club has activated pitcher Matt Wisler from the 15-day injured list.

The team has also recalled infielder Jonathan Aranda from Triple-A Durham.

Wisler will rejoin the Rays bullpen on Friday in their series opener against the visiting New York Yankees, after missing the last five weeks due to a neck strain.

In 42 innings this season in the majors, Wisler has posted an impressive 2.36 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 34 strikeouts over 42 innings. He has a 3-3 record and has converted one save.

The twenty-nine-year-old had not really enjoyed much success over his eight-year career before joining the Rays last season, where he also posted an impressive 2.15 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 36 strikeouts over 29 innings.

The Rays have recalled infielder Jonathan Aranda from Triple-A Durham.

The twenty-four-year-old has been good in his major league debut this season, slashing .375/.375/.438 with two RBIs and one run scored over seven games.

Aranda's also been very impressive in the minors this season, hitting a very good .318 batting average, a .394 on-base percentage, with 18 home runs, 85 RBIs and four stolen bases over 403 at-bats.

Aranda is a versatile infielder and outfielder and will be a valuable platoon option for the Rays down the stretch as the team makes a push for the playoffs.
