Orioles Activate Pitcher Claimed Off Waivers on Monday; Recall Reliever

The Baltimore Orioles have activated pitcher Jake Reed.

The Orioles claimed Jake Reed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.

Reed will add some depth to the Orioles bullpen after being designated for assignment last week by the Dodgers. The twenty-nine-year-old unfortunately won't be eligible for the postseason, if the Orioles make it, but he'll help the team make their push for a playoff berth.

In 10 relief appearances this season, between the New York Mets and Dodgers, Reed has registered an ugly 7.36 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and eight strikeouts over 11 innings. He's also converted one save on the season.

The Orioles have recalled pitcher Yennier Cano from Triple-A Norfolk.

Cano gives the Orioles a fresh arm out of the bullpen following a doubleheader on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The twenty-eight-year-old was acquired last month from the Minnesota Twins for closer Jorge Lopez. He's compiled a poor 9.22 ERA, 2.05 WHIP and 14 strikeouts over 13.2 innings pitched this season in the majors.

He has yet to make his Orioles debut.
