Astros DFA Pitcher and Utility Player

The Houston Astros needed to make room on their roster for the promotions of Hunter Brown and Yainer Diaz.

As a result, the club has designated Niko Goodrum and Peter Solomon for assignment.
Goodrum has been awful in his time with the Astros this season, going just 5-for-43 in 15 games played. In the minors, the thirty-year old has been decent, posting a .290 batting average, an amazing .488 on-base percentage, two home runs, nine RBIs and three stolen bases over 62 at-bats.

He'll likely just be organizational depth moving forward.

The Astros have also designated pitcher Peter Solomon for assignment.

This one's interesting, as Solomon held a very good 1.29 ERA in 14 innings pitched with the Astros last season. In the minors this year, however, the twenty-four-year-old has been a disappointment, posting an ugly 5.20 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 88 strikeouts over 97 innings pitched. He holds an 8-6 record and has started 18 games.

There's a good chance Solomon generates some interest on the waiver wire.
