Rockies Claim Pitcher DFA'd Earlier This Week

Acquired from the San Diego Padres on Monday as part of the return for the Josh Hader deal, the Padres immediately designated him for assignment.

Now Dinelson Lamet has found a new home with the Colorado Rockies, who have claimed him off waivers.

The former top prospect had allowed 13 earned runs in 12 innings of relief this year, with 16 strikeouts. Not good. However, in the past, Lamet has had success. Particularly in the 2020 season, where Lamet posted a stellar 2.09 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 93 strikeouts in 69 innings.

Other than this year, the thirty-year-old is a pretty good pitcher, owning a career ERA of 3.86, 1.10 WHIP, and an 11.7 K/9 ratio across 303 innings.

He's also started 56 of the 69 games he's appeared in, prior to this year, so he already has experience as a starter if the Rockies choose to utilize him in that area.

It will be interesting to see if the Rockies can unearth some of that former talent Lamet showcased.
