Mets Recall Infielder and Place Pitcher on Paternity List

The Mets have placed pitcher Seth Lugo on the paternity list.

Lugo will be away from the Mets for the next few days, and will miss up to three games at most. The thirty-two year old has been a reliable reliever for the Mets this season, posting a 3.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 28 innings. He has also converted two saves this season.

In a corresponding move, the Mets have called up infielder/outfielder Dominic Smith from Triple-A Syracuse. The twenty-seven year old was sent down in late May, after hitting a dreadful .186/.287/.256 with zero homeruns and 14 RBIs in 39 games.

In Triple-A so far, Smith has hit .266/.347/.438 in 15 games, cooling off a bit since his hot start following his demotion.

If he wants to stick around in the majors, Smith will have to manage better than the .235/.301/.346 slash line he's put together for the Mets the past two seasons.
