Rays Activate Pitcher From Injured List and Immediately Designate Him

The Tampa Bay Rays have activated pitcher Chris Mazza from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment.

Mazza completed his 30-day minor league rehab assignment, posting a 4.85 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and a 18:6 K/BB across 13 innings with Triple-A Durham.

The relief pitcher was decent for Tampa Bay last season, throwing a 4.61 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, with 21 strikeouts in 27 innings.

Mazza will have to clear waivers to stay with Tampa, however there are many teams with struggling bullpens who could use the veteran reliever.

Chris Mazza will join several other pitchers released by their teams today as a result of the MLB implementing the reduction of team's pitching staffs from 14 to 13, earlier this afternoon.
