Giants Place Outfielder on Injured List

Giants placed outfielder Luis Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain.

Gonzalez was scratched from Wednesday's game due to lower back tightness and then underwent an MRI that revealed a lower back strain.

The outfielder is expected to be fully shut down for a week and most likely will not be an option for the Giants until sometime in mid-July.

The twenty-six year old rookie was enjoying a fantastic season, hitting .302/.361/.447 with three home runs, 24 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 49 games.

Infielder Donovan Walton was recalled in a corresponding move.

The Giants are 38-30 on the season and sitting in the third NL Wild Card spot, a half-game up on the Brewers.
