Braves Designate Catcher For Assignment

The Atlanta Braves have designated Chadwick Tromp for assignment.

Tromp joined the Braves before the start of this season, so this decision has been made before he even appeared in a game for the club. Instead, the catcher spent nine games with the San Francisco Giants last season, where he had one home run, two RBIs, and a .222 batting average.

Tromp's major league experience is limited in general, too. In total, he has only played in 33 games - all with San Francisco. So far, he has five home runs, 12 RBIs, and a .215 batting average. Yet, if another team decides to claim him, he could have the chance to build on these totals.

The Braves have also called up William Contreras, so it has become clear that he will be fighting for the backup job instead.
