3 Potential Landing Spots For Andrelton Simmons

Andrelton Simmons is one of the less talked about shortstops on the open market at this time. Although he of course can't sign a contract somewhere during the lockout, he should get interest once it ends. The veteran is coming off of a down year with the Minnesota Twins, as he had three home runs, 31 RBIS and a .223 batting average. Yet, his resume surely still makes him an intriguing free agent. Keep in mind, he is a four-time Gold Glove Award winner and also has six Fielding Bible Awards.

Nevertheless, here are three potential landing spots for him.

New York Yankees: The Yankees have been linked to Simmons since the beginning of the offseason, so naturally, they have to be viewed as a potential landing spot. When seeing as how almost all the big-name shortstops on the market have been signed, it now seems even more possible that the Yankees could elect to go with him as their short-term option. He would be a nice veteran to have.

Houston Astros:
It seems that Carlos Correa will be signing elsewhere. Simmons does not have the same star power as him, of course, but he could be an solid signing for them. Although he'd be an understandable downgrade, he still would give them reliable fielding and could be their guy until they land a bigger name later down the road.

Colorado Rockies: With Trevor Story likely leaving Colorado, they also should be linked to Simmons. The Rockies have made it clear that they aren't necessarily tanking entirely, so perhaps they could elect to get a veteran to help mentor their younger players. Playing in Colorado could also interest Simmons, as Coors Field is a hitter-friendly park.
