Toronto Blue Jays Sign Relief Pitcher

The Toronto Blue Jays have added to their bullpen, as they have signed pitcher Yimi Garcia to a two-year, $11 million contract. It also comes with a $5 million club option for the 2024 season.

Garcia split the 2021 season between the Miami Marlins and Houston Astros. In 62 total games on the year, he had a 4-9 record, 4.21 ERA and 60 strikeouts. However, it's important to note that he struggled more after joining the Astros, as he had a 5.48 ERA in 23 appearances. Perhaps the change of scenery to Toronto can help him get back on track.

The Blue Jays will be hoping that Garcia can replicate the success he had during the 2020 season with Miami. In 14 games during the shortened campaign, he had a 3-0 record and 0.60 ERA. Although the sample size was short, he was quite dominant during it.

In 241 career games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Marlins and Astros, Garcia has a 12-20 record, 3.60 ERA, 17 saves and 245 strikeouts. Overall, this isn't a bad signing for the Jays and it could come with a nice reward.
