Report: Blue Jays Offer Multi-Year Deal to Free-Agent SP

The Toronto Blue Jays have been busy these past few weeks, trying to get some players signed to upgrade their roster for 2022. They recently lost Steven Matz to the St Louis Cardinals and have currently turned some of their attention to a free-agent starter out of San Francisco.

Reports have confirmed the Blue Jays have offered a multi-year contract to right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman. The great news for Blue Jays fans is the fact the free-agent has let the team know they are a finalist for his consideration and a decision could be coming before Dec.1. Word is it will be a five-year contract.

The Blue Jays have already lost Matz and there's talk that Robbie Ray is going to sign a mega-deal with another club so the team is going to have to shift their focus eventually.

Last season the 30-year-old Gausman was dominant for the Giants, earning an All-Star bid and finishing in the top-six for National League Cy Young voting. He started 33 times and went 14-6 with a 2.81 ERA and a strike out rate of 10.6 per nine innings.

This was no fluke as it was the second season in a row where Gausman dominated hitters. In 2020 he struck out 11.9 batters per nine innings and looks like he's found his game. As for next season, it could be up north in Canada or look for Gausman to sign with one of the Seattle Mariners, Giants, New York Mets or Los Angeles Angels.
