Carlos Correa Receives New Offer From Astros

The Houston Astros have offered star shortstop Carlos Correa a five-year, $160 million contract. Although the $32 million AAV that it carries is certainly appealing, the term of the contract isn't going to convince the 27-year-old to remain in Houston.

It is well-known that Correa is looking for a nine- or ten-year contract and there will be teams on the open market willing to give it to him. Term seems to be the biggest priority with him and it's rather likely he could still make $32 million per year from another team in the process.

If the Astros truly want to keep Correa around, they will need to offer him more seasons. It's ultimately that simple. However, they seem adamant on giving him a five-year contract, as they also offered a five-year, $125 million contract earlier on during the season.

If this truly marks the end of Correa's time in Houston, he certainly was quite good for the franchise. In 752 games as an Astro, he has 133 home runs, 489 RBIs and a .277 batting average. With that, he was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2015, two-time All-Star and a Fielding Bible Award winner this season.

We will have to see what happens next with him from here.
