Boston Red Sox All-Star Not Opting Out

J.D. Martinez has decided to not opt out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox for the 2022 season. He will be making $19.375 million for the campaign.
With this, the Red Sox now know that they won't be losing their star DH. Him sticking around was very important for the team, as Kyle Schwarber recently rejected his mutual option and is now a free agent. The Red Sox still could technically pursue Schwarber, but there's no guarantee he will sign.

After a rough season last year, Martinez bounced back fantastically in 2021. In 148 games, he had 28 home runs, 99 RBIs and a .286 batting average. With this, he made his fourth All-Star Game and led the league in doubles with 44.

Martinez will be looking to continue his success next season and Red Sox fans should be happy that this is the case.
