Detroit Tigers Spending a Ton of Money on Pitching This Offseason

The Detroit Tigers management team is sick and tired of seeing the team lose games and have an agreement with ownership to spend some serious dollars this winter to upgrade their team. Look out for the Tigers to spend on some experienced pitching as they try to improve on a 77-85 season.

Tigers general manager Al Avila spoke to the media on Tuesday and reiterated the fact the team will be in the market for established starting pitching:

I would say an established starter would be a necessity.

The list of available pitchers is an interesting one because it will include two ex-Tigers in Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. The talent doesn't stop there as Clayton Kershaw, Robbie Ray, Carlos Rodon, Marcus Stroman, and Noah Syndergaard are also available. One problem, it's Detroit and not a market players drool over joining.

The team hasn't reached the playoffs since 2014 and they've posted losing seasons in six of the last seven. After a brutal start the 2021 season, they managed to get things on track, and who knows, after adding a couple of arms in the winter, maybe they can get back to their winning ways in Motown.
