Trade Proposal: Giants To Add Another Rogers

Only a week-and-a-half to go until the MLB trade deadline, and a number of teams are trying to solidify their holds on division leads. The San Francisco Giants are clinging to a one-game lead over their arch-rival Los Angeles Dodgers, and looking for another piece for their bullpen.

An MLB.com report points to the Giants having the 4th-most blown saves and the 2nd-worst strand rate in the league. They have a couple of fine pieces in the bullpen, notably Tyler Rogers, the submarining righty who's put up 10 saves with an ERA of 1.43.

The report calls for the Giants to trade for Minnesota Twins All-Star reliever Taylor Rogers. Tyler's twin brother Taylor is a quality relief arm, having an equally strong season, with 8 saves. He's a lefty, with a much lower xERA than his 3.52 suggests, and he's an All-Star.

Let's just say that if one T. Rogers is good, then another T. Rogers would double the fun.

As noted by MLB.com's Shanthi Sepe-Chepuru, San Fran has committed the 2nd fewest errors in the majors, while Taylor's current team, the Twins, are at the opposite end of the spectrum, having committed the 2nd most. This would undoubtedly make Taylor even more efficient in the Bay Area.

The proposed trade would have the Giants sending their No. 7 prospect OF Luis Matos and No. 17, 1B Logan Wyatt to the Twins.

The only sticking point on the Minnesota side, is that Taylor Rogers has another year of control before becoming a free agent in 2023, and that could be something the budget-conscious Twins would still covet.

There will be a lot bullpen machinations league-wide in the next week and a half leading up to July 30th. Keep an eye here for all the news.
