Yankees' Stunning Trade Offer Was Turned Down By Rockies

The New York Yankees fell short in their season-long bid to try to land an impact catcher. The biggest name that they pursued was Colorado Rockies slugger Hunter
Goodman, a two-time All-Star with 72 home runs over the last two years. And boy, couldn't the Yankees have used him down the stretch with Aaron Judge out of the lineup for the postseason?

The Rockies weren't going to give him up cheaply, and the Yankees knew it, offering their top prospect George Lombard Jr. in return in a stunning package. The Rockies passed on it.

Goodman finished the 2026 campaign with 41 dingers and 88 RBIs with an .839 OPS.

The 21-year-old Lombard Jr. eventually got the call to the bigs down the stretch, and batted .237 with seven home runs, 22 RBI, and an OPS+ of 92 over 152 at-bats. He's a big piece of the Yankees' future... Unless they try to revisit those talks again this offseason.

The report concludes that there's a "slim chance" that Goodman is moved, but the Rockies, who are in rebuild mode, could bring in a huge haul for the slugging backstop—be it from the Yankees, or any other team that steps up.
