3 San Diego Padres Who Won't Be Back Next Season

The San Diego Padres went all-in at the trade deadline, acquiring some notable starting pitching. Unfortunately, it all backfired on them, as the two big names coming in were brutal in their time in Southern California.

That's the main storyline as we have a look at three San Diego Padres who won't be back next season.

Casey Mize

Mize had a terrific first four months of the season with the Detroit Tigers, posting a 2.72 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. After coming over at trade deadline however, he struggled mightily down the stretch, going 2–4 with a 7.46 ERA in San Diego. He allowed 13 home runs in just 10 starts. As an unrestricted free agent, it's highly unlikely the Padres will be trying to re-sign him.

Robbie Ray

A former Cy Young winner who the Friars brought in at the deadline, Ray was having a solid, if unspectacular, season with the San Francisco Giants, with a 3.08 ERA in 21 starts. But after his arrival in San Diego, it was a complete disaster. He posted a 5.02 ERA in nine starts, with 1.53 WHIP and walked (5.7) nearly as many as he struck out (6.9).

Miguel Andújar

After a solid 2025 in which he hit .318 with an .822 OPS, Andujar was brought in on a $4M deal, with an $8 million mutual option for 2027 with a $2.5 million buyout.  The Padres will certainly decline that option and let him enter free agency. He  hit just .259 with 5 home runs in 74 regular-season games, and made very little impact on the team.

Honorable Mention:

Lucas Giolito, who was injured for a large portion of the year, and had a 5.16 ERA in seven appearances (five starts) when he did pitch.
