Top 3 Landing Spots For Jazz Chisholm Jr. in Free Agency
Jazz Chisholm Jr., despite 41 stolen bases, did not have the type of contract year that he was hoping for heading into free agency. But he's still got his sights set high, and most are predicting that the Yankees won't meet his sky-high demands.
He batted just .231 with a .711 OPS, both the lowest of his career. Many feel that the Yankees will not extend him the $23M qualifying offer, and even if they do, it's even more unlikely he'd accept it.
With that, let's take a look at the top 4 landing spot for Chisholm in free agency, with the help of Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report.
Toronto Blue Jays
Yes, second baseman Ernie Clement is the most beloved Blue Jay. Yes, he was the leading vote-getter in the American League in 2026 for the All-Star Game. But Clement served better as a utility guy, as he did in 2025, able to fill in all around the infield. His offense isn't at all comparable to what Chisholm can bring, if he's on his game. As Rymer points out, the Jays offense was dreadful this season, finishing at or near the very bottom of the majors in both home runs and stolen bases. Those are two things that Chisholm can definitely "jazz" up the Jays' offence with.
Detroit Tigers
2B Gleyber Torres is heading into free agency as well. Her performed admirably the past two seasons in Detroit, though nothing game-breaking. Chisholm has that in him. "For the Tigers, swapping out Torres for Chisholm at second base would be a play for greater upside. Torres is sneaky-good at getting on base, but with little in the way of power or speed." Jazz could change all that.
Would they shell out the money that Chisholm will be looking for?
San Diego Padres
Jake Cronenworth had an even more disappointing season than usual this year, batting .225 with a .625 OPS, both career lows. Same goes for his seven homers and 41 RBIs. The Pads defnintely need to punch up their offense for 2027, even as they look to rebuild their starting staff as well.
