After eight major league seasons, a Stolen Base Crown, and a World Series appearance with the New York Yankees, infielder Jon Berti has officially retired from baseball.
Berti made a name for himself during his five seasons with the Miami Marlins (2019-2023) where he slashed .258/.338/.367, with 91 of his 108 stolen bases, and a 6.8 fWAR.

In 2022, he was MLB's stolen base champion, swiping 41 bags for the Fish, while playing at six different positions in the field.

Berti was also part of the Yankees' 2024 team that won the AL pennant before losing to the LA Dodgers in the World Series.

The 36-year-old last played on a big stage with Team Italy during the World Baseball Classic earlier this year, batting an impressive .375 with a .444 on-base percentage. But it wasn't enough to earn him a job with a major league team this season.

Berti posted his own retirement announcement on Instagram:

"After a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to retire from professional baseball. It’s been a hell of a journey, full of ups and downs. I’m very grateful for all the opportunities and lessons that baseball has given me over the last 15+ years.

"I want to thank the Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Guardians, Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, and Chicago Cubs for giving me a chance to play the game I love professionally. It was an honor to represent such great MLB organizations...

"Thank you to all the fans who supported me throughout my journey. I worked hard to represent the organization and city I was playing for. I appreciate all the love along the way...

"Last but not least, thank you to all my family and friends who joined me for the ride. All the love and support from my amazing wife, parents, and brothers. I couldn’t have had all the success I did without you all in my corner.

"Not bad for an undersized kid from Michigan. I’m excited for what’s to come. Until next time."
