The Colorado Rockies will be losing pitcher Domingo Acevedo for the rest of the season, as the Triple-A right-hander has been hit with an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Acevedo tested positive for Stanozolol, of the most infamous anabolic steroids that ball players have been repeatedly caught with.

Acevedo has 88 innings pitched in the major leagues, the last time, however, was back in the 2023 season, with the Oakland A's. He has bounced around in the independent league in Mexico since then, until signing a minor league deal with the Rockies back in late April.

In eight appearances, six of them starts, Acevedo has a 5.81 ERA with Albuquerque, while striking out 10.2 batters per nine innings.

In his 89 major league appearances, from 2021 through '23 with the A's, he posted a 4.09 ERA.

Previously, there have been three major leaguers suspended this season for PEDs:

  • Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar was slapped with a 162-game suspension on March 3 for his second straight year with a positive test. He had an 80-game ban the year before.
  • Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Johan Rojas got hit with an 80-game suspension on March 16 for a first-time violation.
  • Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Max Kepler (who was a free agent at the time) got himself an 80-game ban back in January.
