Report: Blue Jays' George Springer Willing To Be Traded To AL East Rival

One of the top trade pieces for the Toronto Blue Jays as we approach Monday's deadline is outfielder George Springer. He's been on a hot streak of late, and after a tough first half of the season, teams are starting to take notice. 

But Springer has earned his 10-and-5 rights—at least 10 years of Major League service time and the past 5 consecutive seasons with the same team. That means he has a full no-trade clause. 

However, a report from Julian McWilliams of CBS Sports says that the Boston Red Sox are one team that Springer would be interested in being dealt to.

Boston is a destination that interests Blue Jays trade candidate George Springer, who has 10-5 rights and can veto any trade.

The Red Sox have interest as well, “but only under the right circumstances.”

It's not surprising that Springer would be happy at Fenway Park. Not only is that his hometown team, but  his numbers there over his career are excellent:

In 51 games, he's hit .323 with 10 home runs and a .940 OPS. Just this year at Fenway, in six games, Springer is batting .348 with a couple of homers and a whopping 1.060 OPS.

His overall numbers this season are not great, but he's been on a red-hot run over the past five weeks, batting .280 with 7 home runs and an .852 OPS in his last 32 games.

Springer has also been a postseason king throughout his career, with an .880 OPS over 83 playoff games, with a .271 average and 23 long balls. Blue Jays fans will remember his clutch performance in the 2025 run to the World Series, in which Springer batted .284 in 16 games with four homers and an .899 OPS.

Sounds like an ideal deadline pickup for any team heading to the postseason, but the Red Sox in particular. We know that Boston is looking to bolster their lineup offensively, and their last move to bring in a right-handed hitter in Curtis Mead fell flat after Mead had his hand broken on a hit-by-pitch in his first game with the team.

Additionally, with Jarren Duran squarely on the trade block, sporting one of the worst hitting records in baseball this year, that would open up a spot in the outfield/DH rotation for Springer.
