MLB Rumors: Phillies & Orioles Linked To Trade

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Taylor Ward touches home during 2026 game.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of baseball's most consistently disappointing outfields for two straight seasons, and the upcoming trade deadline market has produced an obvious solution.

Taylor Ward is potentially available, CBS Sports' Mike Axisa named the Phillies as the team at the front of the line, and ESPN's Jeff Passan described Ward as fitting "snugly" into Philadelphia's lineup alongside Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.

The Baltimore Orioles acquired Ward from the Angels last offseason in the Grayson Rodriguez deal and are 5 games below .500 with very difficult playoff path, making him one of the more actionable rental assets on the entire deadline market.

Why Ward Solves the Phillies' Problem

Adolis Garcia was signed to fill the right-handed outfield bat need that has haunted Philadelphia for years and has been a significant disappointment.

Trea Turner is struggling. Alec Bohm has not been productive.

Ward represents everything the Phillies' lineup is missing on the right side of the plate.

He hit 36 home runs in 2025 and is at a .403 on-base percentage in 2026 with a .766 OPS, 16 doubles, and a 19.3 percent walk rate that ranks third-highest in the American League.

He bats right-handed, he can play either corner outfield position, and would slot into the cleanup spot in a Phillies lineup with Schwarber second, Harper third, and Ward fourth.

The cost should be manageable.

FanSided proposed a package of prospects Gabriel Rincones Jr. and Jean Cabrera heading to Baltimore, a package anchored by two top-15 Phillies prospects that shows the rental nature of the deal given Ward is a free agent after this season.

Whether Dave Dombrowski is willing to include two prospects from a system that is not especially deep is the real question in any Ward pursuit.
