Philadelphia Phillies Sign 9-Year Veteran Pitcher
The Phillies signed left-hander Kolby Allard to a minor league deal, sending him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to provide non-roster rotation depth.
Allard pitched for Philadelphia in 2024, posting a 5.00 ERA across seven outings and four starts, before spending the last two seasons in the Cleveland organization.
A Revolving Door in Cleveland
The 28-year-old just opted out of a minor league deal with the Guardians, marking the third time he parted ways with Cleveland this season alone.
He previously re-signed with the Guardians on a pair of minor league contracts after electing free agency in April and opting out in May, a cycle that finally ended when he chose Philadelphia instead.
His big league time with Cleveland this year did not go well, with a 10.38 ERA across four outings and 8.2 innings.

The Triple-A version of Allard has been considerably more functional.
In eight appearances with five starts at Columbus this season, he posted a 4.11 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and a 28-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 30.2 innings, striking out 22.4 percent of batters faced while inducing grounders on 45.3 percent of balls in play.
He had impressive MLB success as recently as 2025, posting a 2.63 ERA in 65 innings across 33 games for Cleveland, though that came with help from a 79.2 percent strand rate.
Why Philadelphia Made the Move
Allard does not throw hard, averaging around 90 miles per hour with his four-seamer and sinker, but the Phillies value the depth given a thin pitching picture beyond their core rotation.
He was originally a first-round pick by Atlanta in 2015 and has appeared with the Braves, Rangers, Phillies, and Guardians across a career that has produced a 5.47 ERA.
