MLB Trade Rumors: Proposed Swap Would Send Joe Ryan To the Dodgers
Joe Ryan continues to be one of the prime trade candidates in baseball as we steam towards the mid-summer trade deadline. Coming off an All-Star season, the Minnesota Twins ace is having an even better year—his best yet—with a 2.99 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and a 99:18 strikeout to walk ratio in 87.1 innings.
The Twins find themselves five games under .500, and while they're still on the periphery of the Wild Card race in the weak American League, it stands to reason that they'll eventually come to the obvious conclusion that they are not really contenders this year, and will be sellers at Aug. 3rd deadline. And they have no bigger trade piece than Ryan. He has one more year of team control remaining, so he will command a hefty price.
And if a top starter is on the block, the Los Angeles Dodgers can't be far behind. To that end, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has a proposed deal that would bring Ryan to Hollywood, in the latest installment of The Rich Get Richer.
Los Angeles Dodgers receive:
- Joe Ryan, SP
Minnesota Twins receive:
- OF Zyhir Hope (Dodgers #2 prospect)
- RHP River Ryan (Dodgers #6)
- OF Kendall George (#13)
The Dodgers are the No. 1 proponents of the You Can't Have Enough Pitching credo, and it's become an issue once again this season as it always does. Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell are, unsurprisingly, on the 60-day IL and won't be back until around the All-Star Break in mid-July. And of course, that doesn't guarantee that either or both of them won't land on the IL again before the season is over.
Having another ace up their sleeve is the Dodgers' M.O.
Why the Twins would send Joe Ryan to the Dodgers
In this deal, LA would be giving up two of its top six prospects and three of its top 15. Hope is the gem of the bunch, rating as LA's No. 2 prospect. The 21-year-old is tearing it up in Double-A this year, with 13 homers and 58 RBIs in 63 games.
The Twins would get another Ryan on the mound in return, as well. River Ryan is 27 now, and had a cup of coffee in the bigs two years ago. Tommy John surgery wiped out his 2025 season, but he's coming back at Triple-A this year, and has been mostly dominating.
The Joe Ryan trade machine will continue to churn away until the Aug. 3rd deadline comes and goes.
