TRADE: Giants Deal Patrick Bailey to AL Central Team

Patrick Bailey, Giants

The San Francisco Giants have made a notable move. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Giants have traded catcher Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for pitching prospect Matt Wilkinson and the 29th overall pick of the 2026 MLB draft.

This is a notable move from the struggling Giants, as Bailey is a two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher. This deal shows that the Giants are open to being sellers, which is understandable when noting that they are at the bottom of the National League West standings with a 15-23 record.

With the Guardians needing a boost at the catcher position, it is understandable that they have brought in Bailey. He will now look to help the Guardians build on their solid start to the season. At the time of this writing, the Guardians have a 21-19 record and are at the top of the American League Central standings.

Bailey has appeared in 30 games this season, where he has one home run, five RBIs, and a .146 batting average. This is after he had six home runs, 55 RBIs, and a .222 batting average in 135 games for the Giants during the 2025 season.

Overall, this has the potential to be a good move for both teams. The Guardians have landed another catcher who thrives behind the plate, while the Giants have gotten a solid return that has the potential to benefit their future.
