Brewers Pitcher Suspended For Obscene Actions

There are celebrations, and then there are celebrations that cross the line. Milwaukee Brewers reliever Abner Uribe performed the latter, and has now been hit by Major League Baseball with a one-game suspension.

The suspension and an undisclosed fine were handed down to Abner, says MLB, “for his inappropriate actions towards the St. Louis Cardinals’ dugout during the top of the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game at American Family Field.”

The incident—ok, let's just call it an obscene gesture—came after a called third strike on St. Louis Cardinals batter Alec Burleson. Uribe exploded with an extremely animated triple crotch chop aimed at the Cards' dugout.

Even Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy called Uribe's actions “unacceptable.” The pitcher later apologized to his team, while adding an excuse that there had been prior provocations by the Cardinals.

To that extent, Uribe is appealing the suspension.

The 26-year-old is the acting co-closer in Milwaukee, sharing the job with Trevor Megill. Uribe has five saves, a 4.19 ERA in 19.1 innings, with a 1.19 WHIP. He has a 21:8 strikeout to walk ratio.
