Yankees Place Star Slugger On Injured List & Call Up Infielder
The New York Yankees have announced that they have placed star slugger Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain, retroactive to April 25. In addition, the Yankees shared that they have called up infielder Max Schuemann from Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
— New York Yankees (@Yankees) April 28, 2026
• Recalled INF Max Schuemann (#30) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
• Placed DH/OF Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 4/25) with a right calf strain.
Stanton has appeared in 24 games so far this season with the Yankees, where he has three home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .256 batting average. This is after he had 24 home runs, 66 RBIs, and a .273 batting average in 77 games for the Yankees during the 2025 season.
It is no secret that Stanton has been dealing with injury trouble over the last several seasons, and now this is just the latest example of him needing to miss time. With Stanton being one of their top power hitters when he is playing at his best, they will certainly miss him while he is sidelined for them.
As for Schuemann, he had two home runs, seven RBIs, and a .197 batting average in 101 games for the Athletics during this past season. This is after he had seven home runs, 14 stolen bases, 34 RBIs, and a .220 batting average in 133 games for the Athletics as a rookie during the 2024 season.
It will now be interesting to see how much of an impact Schuemann can make during his call-up to the Yankees' roster from here.
