MLB Trade Rumors: 2 Prominent Names Becoming Trade Candidates for Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles are trying to keep pace in the tough American League East Division. They're a game under .500, but have a slew of players on the injured list, young and old, pitchers and position players.
How they approach the trade season this summer will depend on how they get through this injury crisis.
If they can get everyone back and stay firmly in the playoff hunt, they are projected to put a top young pitching prospect on the trade block to get them some help down the stretch. But if they fall out of it, they could go nuclear and trade their ace.
David Schoenfield of ESPN projects these two prominent names as potential trade candidates for the O's:
If they're sellers:
Trevor Rogers
Their top starter from a year ago, Rogers simply dominated with a 1.81 ERA in 18 starts. He received some Top 10 Cy Young votes. He started 2026 just as hot, with a 1.89 ERA through his first three starts. He's stumbled over the last two outings, but has probably shown enough to bring back a nice return, even as a pending free agent. Adding a left-hander like Rogers would be a huge boon to any contending team's rotation.
If they're buyers:
Trey Gibson
The 23-year-old is a 6'5", 240-pound power pitcher who is the O's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline. Once he figures it out Triple-A (his first five starts this year haven't been elite, by any means), he could be an in-demand prospect that could get the O's perhaps a bullpen arm or something of value to help them at the trade deadline.
