MLB Rumors: Mets Linked to Reunion With 2X All-Star SP
The New York Mets are off to a solid start to the 2026 season, as they sport a 6-4 record and are second in the National League East. They have also won each of their last three games, so they are trending in the right direction.
Yet, when looking at the Mets' roster, it is clear that they should be looking to improve their pitching rotation this season. Due to this, they are now being linked to one of baseball's top trade candidates, who they already know very well.
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer named the New York Mets as a potential landing spot for Athletics pitcher Luis Severino.
It is no secret that Severino is a prime trade candidate to watch this season, as he was the subject of trade rumors all offseason. When noting that the Mets could use another impactful starting pitcher, it would make all the sense in the world for them to try to bring back Severino this season.
Severino spent the 2024 season with the Mets and had a strong campaign for them. In 31 games for the Mets during that season, the two-time All-Star had an 11-7 record, a 3.91 ERA, and 161 strikeouts. With this, it would be understandable if they were interested in a reunion with Severino. He would give the middle of their rotation a nice boost if acquired.
Nevertheless, it will be very interesting to see if the Mets can end up striking a deal for Severino by the deadline.
