Breaking: Rookie of the Year Runner-Up To Have Season-Ending Surgery

In a devastating development for the Chicago Cubs, they have announced that last year's Rookie of the Year runner-up Cade Horton will have season-ending surgery on his elbow.

Horton came out of Friday's start after just one inning, suffering from what was being called a right forearm strain. Imaging, however, revealed that his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) would need to be repaired. Whether it's a full Tommy John procedure or the less invasive internal brace surgery won't be known until the operation is performed.

Horton completed his rookie year in 2025 with an 11-4 record, a 2.67 ERA, and a 1.08 WHIP in 22 starts.

He was off to a strong start this season, with a 2.45 ERA through 7.1 innings and a 0.81 WHIP.

His loss leaves a huge void in the Cubs rotation. They'll also be without Matthew Boyd for a couple of weeks due to a biceps strain.

More to come...
