MLB Rumors: Red Sox & Mets Linked To Huge Trade

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran reacts during 2025 game.

The New York Mets and Boston Red Sox keep frequently being linked together in trade chatter, and Jarren Duran is right in the middle of it.

Multiple reports, including a projection from Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, suggest the Mets could target Duran during the 2026 season if their outfield situation gets shaky. Boston is not actively shopping him, but with a crowded outfield and infield questions lingering, the rumors refuse to die.

Mets eye Jarren Duran as potential midseason splash

From the Mets’ perspective, tthey already added Luis Robert Jr., Freddy Peralta, and other key pieces this offseason, but if rookie Carson Benge struggles or injuries hit again, they could look for another impact bat.

Duran fits that mold.

The 29-year-old was an All-Star in 2024, finishing eighth in American League MVP voting after posting an 8.7 bWAR season with 48 doubles, 14 triples, 21 home runs, a .285 average, and a 132 OPS+.

Even in what was a step back year in 2025, Duran still produced 4.7 bWAR across 157 games, slashing .256/.332/.442 with 41 doubles, an AL-leading 13 triples, 16 home runs, 84 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases.

Put him next to Robert and Juan Soto, and the Mets could roll out one of the most dynamic outfields in baseball.

Red Sox face Jarren Duran decision amid outfield logjam

The Boston Red Sox are not desperate sellers, but they do have a legitimate outfield surplus with Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, and Ceddanne Rafaela all pushing for everyday roles.

Duran is under team control through 2028, which makes him attractive on the trade market but also extremely valuable internally for a club trying to contend.

The rumored framework from Miller would send infielders Brett Baty and Mark Vientos to Boston, addressing potential long-term questions at second or third base.

Vientos flashed 27-home-run power in 2024, while Baty posted a .748 OPS with 18 homers and solid defense in 2025. For the Red Sox, that type of package only makes sense if their young infield core stumbles or injuries force their hand.
