MLB Rumors: Lucas Giolito Free Agency Landing Spot Emerging

The San Francisco Giants could be closing in on a late offseason addition.

With Opening Day around the corner and veteran starter Lucas Giolito still unsigned, league chatter continues to link the former All-Star to San Francisco as a logical landing spot.

After finishing the 2025 season at 81-81 and missing the playoffs for a fourth straight year, the Giants are clearly searching for ways to strengthen their roster. Adding Giolito would give them another experienced arm capable of stabilizing the rotation behind Logan Webb and Robbie Ray.

Lucas Giolito Fits Giants Rotation Needs

Even after adding pitchers like Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle this winter, the Giants still have questions surrounding the back half of their rotation.

Injuries and inconsistency have been recurring themes, making another proven starter an attractive option as the regular season approaches.

The 6-foot-6 right-hander is coming off a strong 2025 campaign with the Boston Red Sox, posting a 10-4 record with a 3.41 ERA and 121 strikeouts across 145 innings

At his best, Giolito has been one of baseball’s more reliable strikeout pitchers, including an All-Star season in 2019 when he finished sixth in AL Cy Young voting with 228 strikeouts

For a Giants team trying to keep pace in the National League West, adding that type of veteran production could be extremely valuable.

Oracle Park Could Revive Giolito’s Market Value

Giolito has historically been a fly-ball pitcher, which has occasionally led to home run trouble in smaller ballparks.

Oracle Park, one of the most pitcher-friendly stadiums in baseball, could help neutralize that issue while allowing him to rebuild his value heading into the 2027 free-agent market.

If the Giants were to sign Giolito, they could potentially roll out a rotation fronted by Webb, Ray, and Giolito, followed by arms like Mahle, Houser, and Landon Roupp

That group would give San Francisco a deeper staff capable of competing for a National League Wild Card spot, something the franchise has not achieved since its 2021 division-winning season.
