Breaking: Cubs Hand Out 2nd Massive Extension This Week

Just a couple of days after locking up outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong to a big six-year extension, the Chicago Cubs have done it again, this time turning their attention to the infield. Second baseman Nico Hoerner is the next Cubbie to get a new six-year deal.

PCA reeled in a $115 million deal, but details have yet to be released on what Hoerner's number will be.

Unlike Crow-Armstrong, Hoerner has proven himself over multiple seasons in the Windy City, with seven years under his belt in the bigs.

Gold Glover Nico Hoerner gets long-term extension with Cubs

Hoerner doesn't bring the power that PCA does, but his elite defense and speed, along with very strong bat-to-ball contact skills make him a terrific two-way player. He already has two Gold Gloves on his resume, and a .282 lifetime batting average with a .340 career on-base percentage.

The 28-year-old notched a .297 mark in 2025, along with a .345 OBP and 29 stolen bases. He has totalled 103 steals over the previous three seasons coming into this year.

He's also a leader on and off the field for the North Siders, known as a "glue guy" for the Cubs, while bringing a high baseball IQ to the diamond.

Hoerner will now be in Chicago through the 2032 season. He'll be playing out the final year of his previous three-year deal this season, with a $12 million salary. That will be getting a huge bump up with the new extension.
