MLB Rumors: Blue Jays & Dodgers Linked to Trade

The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers are being connected in a new hypothetical trade scenario involving pitcher Eric Lauer.

The idea, proposed by Mark Powell of FanSided, suggests the Dodgers could target Lauer as pitching depth while the Blue Jays weigh whether to move the versatile left-hander before he reaches free agency after the 2026 season.

Dodgers linked to Eric Lauer in hypothetical trade

Powell’s proposal would send Lauer to Los Angeles while Toronto receives shortstop prospect Kellon Lindsey and right-handed pitching prospect Brooks Auger in return.

The logic behind the idea stems from the Dodgers potentially seeking additional rotation depth after a shaky spring training showing from highly touted starter Roki Sasaki.

Lauer could provide exactly that type of insurance. The 30-year-old lefty posted a strong 3.18 ERA last season while appearing in 28 games for the Blue Jays, including 15 starts.

His ability to work both as a starter and multi-inning reliever makes him particularly appealing to a team like the Dodgers, who often lean heavily on pitching flexibility throughout the season.

Blue Jays face decision on Eric Lauer’s future

Lauer is entering the final year before free agency, and the Blue Jays may eventually have a surplus of rotation arms depending on how spring training shakes out. That could make Lauer a valuable trade chip for teams looking for reliable pitching depth.

At the same time, moving him would come with risk. Lauer was one of Toronto’s most effective starters during the final months of last season, and versatile pitchers with a sub-3.20 ERA don’t grow on trees.

But, it's clear Lauer is not too pleased with the situation with the Blue Jays right now, especially after they just brought back Max Scherzer, too.
