Yankees Appear Set To Make Surprising Roster Decision in Outfield

He was an 'out of this world' prospect, so to speak. The No. 1 NY Yankees prospect going into three different seasons recently. But after a mediocre rookie year in 2025, the chances of The Martian, Jasson Dominguez, cracking the Yankees' 2026 roster out of spring training are pretty slim at this point.

Barring injury, there isn't room for Dominguez on the team, and he will almost certainly be starting 2026 with Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre.

The Martian's fate seemed to be sealed after the comments from general manager Brian Cashman this week, per the New York Daily News' Gary Phillips.

Stay tuned. I would conceive it’s in his best interest to be getting everyday reps.

That certainly wouldn't be happening in The Bronx. After the re-signing of Cody Bellinger in free agency, and Trent Grisham picking up his option, the Yankees' starting outfield, with Aaron Judge of course, is set.

DH Giancarlo Stanton and utility options like Amed Rosario and Oswaldo Cabrera are fill-in options.

Dominguez was given a pretty fair shake in his first full big league season in 2025, but struggled to a .257/.331/.388 slash line in 429 plate appearances, with 10 homers, a .719 OPS, and even questionable defense in the outfield.

So he'll likely be headed back to Triple-A to get full-time ABs. His last time there, in 2024, he hit .309 with an .848 OPS.

It appears that The Martian is still just a little too "green" to break through on the big planet.
