Breaking: Texas Rangers Re-Sign World Series Champion Pitcher

Ever since leaving the Texas Rangers after their World Series title in 2023, it's been a tough couple of years for left-hander Jordan Montgomery. To say the least. But now he's back in the fold in Texas, on a $1.25 million contract.

Montgomery underwent Tommy John surgery before the 2025 season, so he'll remain out until about midseason this year.

After holding out as a free agent for the entire offseason in 2023-24, Montgomery was forced to sign a last-minute, one-year deal for $25 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks to start the '24 season. His lack of a proper spring training, and all the focus on contract issues with his agent Scott Boras, left Montgomery to have a brutal season, posting a 6.23 ERA in Arizona, with the lowest strikeout and highest walk rates of his career.

He fired Boras shortly after the start of the '24 season.

A free agent again this offseason as he makes his TJ recovery, he's been welcomed back to the Rangers organization, where he was a key part of the team on its run to the World Series title in '23.

Across eight major league seasons, he has a 4.03 ERA. He posted a 2.79 ERA in 11 regular season starts with Texas in '23 down the stretch, then a 2.90 ERA in five playoff starts.
