Done Deal: Bo Bichette Signs With Surprise Team

While the Toronto Blue Jays were spending all their time wooing Kyle Tucker (and failing), their longtime homegrown talent Bo Bichette obviously felt slighted, and now has taken his talents to the New York Mets.

It's a three-year, $126 million deal — $42 million a year.

The Mets, after losing out on Tucker themselves, immediately pivoted to steal Bichette out from under the noses of the Philadelphia Phillies, who had a great meeting with the infielder on Monday of this week.

But the Mets offered him an outrageous amount of money on an annual bais, and got it done.

Bichette will play third base in Queens, with shortstop already spoken for with Francisco Lindor, and their new acquisition of Gold Glove second baseman Marcus Semien. The thought of Bichette making throws from the hot corner, however, seems to fly in the face of the Mets' stated priority of addressing 'run prevention' this offseason.

Now that they have Bichette playing out of position at third, and Jorge Polanco playing out of position at first (and having to deal with erratic throws from Bichette), it could be an adventure in the Mets infield.

But getting that All-Star bat in the lineup to replace the lost power they gave up when they let Pete Alonso go this winter was paramount for the Metropolitans.
