In return, the Marlins get the Cubs' top prospect, OF Owen Caissie, along with their 11th-ranked prospect, 2B/SS Cristian Hernandez, and another prospect, Edgardo De Leon.
The Cubs will get a huge boost to their rotation with the 27-year-old and his excellent fastball, sharp slider, power changeup and nasty curveball. He's in the 87th percentile in baseball in fastball velocity.

He had a 3.53 ERA with the Fish last season, with a 150:48 strikeout to walk ratio, making great strides in his control.
Cabrera still has three years of team control. He'll earn $3.75 million this coming season, and won't become a free agent until 2029.
There were plenty of other teams that were trying to work out a deal with the Marlins for the pitcher, notably the New York Yankees. But insider Jon Heyman reports that they were "never close."
Cabrera will slot into the Cubs' rotation behind last year's rookie sensation Cade Horton, and Justin Steele, when he returns sometime in the first half of the season from last year's elbow surgery. Matthew Boyd, 35, if he can have a repeat of his stunning first All-Star season, will also figure into the top end of the Cubs' starting rotation.
Caissie is a Top 100 prospect with big power. He hit 22 homers in AAA in 2025 with a .551 slugging percentage and .937 OPS. The 23-year-old should step right in as a corner outfielder for the Marlins.
