MLB Trade Rumors: Only ONE Untouchable on Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins are a team that's out there on the trade market, dangling some starting pitching in particular (there's not much offense to pick from, let's be honest).
Sandy Alcantara's name has been out there for a full calendar year now, while Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers are readily available for the right deal as well. But according to insider Ken Rosenthal, in The Athletic, there is one untouchable that the Fish will not be cutting bait on.
The Marlins are at least listening on offers on each of their starters with the exception of Eury Pérez, people familiar with their thinking said.
The 22-year-old was Miami's No. 1 prospect just two years ago, and made a sensational debut in the 2023 season, posting a 3.15 ERA in 19 starts, with 10.6 K/9.
Why Eury Perez is untouchable for the Marlins
He was in the 94th percentile in fastaball velo and 100th percentile in fastball spin rate in that terrific rookie season. But Tommy John surgery knocked him out for the entire 2024 campaign. He came back strong at midseason 2025, looking he would pick up right where he left off, posting a 2.70 ERA through his first 10 starts before hitting a rough patch.
Recovery from TJ is never a linear path, so his final overall 4.25 ERA in 20 starts, with 9.9 K/9 and a return to the 94th percentile in fastball velo, shows that Perez is quite likely to continue his upwards trajectory. His xERA was 3.21, more metrics that prove he's a keeper.
So while "there’s a strong possibility that the Marlins end up moving one of their starters," league sources tell Rosenthal, and there's "serious attention from other teams" for Cabrera, Alcantara and Weathers, don't expect to see Perez going anywhere. He has four more years of team control, and the Marlins hope to be competitive in 2026 and into the future.
