MLB Rumors: 7 Potential Landing Spots Still Available for Bo Bichette

Bo Bichette is one of the top free agents still on the market this offseason, and is also still one of the top priorities for the incumbent Toronto Blue Jays. He's a homegrown star there, and has stated that he wants to continue his career with his pal that he came up from the minors with, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., to bring a World Series back to Canada.

But Bichette has plenty of suitors out there, and the Jays have competition. Additionally, their continued wooing of top free agent Kyle Tucker may cost them a chance to keep their star hitting middle infielder.

Brandon Wile of The Score has compiled a list of seven teams that would be the best fits and have the best chance of signing Bichette:

  1. Toronto Blue Jays
  2. Boston Red Sox
  3. New York Yankees
  4. Los Angeles Dodgers
  5. Seattle Mariners
  6. Texas Rangers
  7. San Francisco Giants

If the Jays don't re-sign Bichette, they very well could lose him to one of their bitter rivals in the AL East, the Red Sox or Yankees. The fact that Bichette has come out to say he's open to playing second base immediately makes him a perfect fit in Boston. The BoSox are sticking with Trevor Story at short, but with his injury history, having a Bichette to slide over from 2B at any time sure would come in handy. Or Bichette could be deployed at third base if Boston isn't able to retain Alex Bregman. Not to mention that the Red Sox are looking to beef up their order with another elite bat.

The Yankees are a more dubious fit, we'd suggest, partly because of Bichette's weak defense to go alongside (or replace) Anthony Volpe at short, and also because their priority at this point is to bring back Cody Bellinger. He is a much better fit for their lineup. However, stealing Bichette from their division foes who knocked them out of the playoffs in 2025 would be a big W for the Yanks in this rivalry.

Of course, you can never count out the Dodgers for any big free agent name. As Wile writes, "Bichette's a player who doesn't crave the spotlight and could blend in on a team already full of stars." That, plus his versatility to play other spots around the infield would be an easy fit on the Dodgers. They don't have a prefered full-time second baseman, but Bichette could also cover for any days that Mookie Betts needs off from shortstop, plus the former Blue Jay could be the answer there to take over for pending 2026 free agent Max Muncy at third base.

Bichette could fill second base voids in Seattle, Texas or San Francisco

The Mariners lost Jorge Polanco in free agency to the New York Mets, so Bichette would fill not only a power role in the batting order, but also the second base spot on the diamond.

The Rangers also have a big void at second to fill, after trading Marcus Semien to the Mets for outfielder Brandon Nimmo. But their defense would take a hit, as Semien is one of the best in the game, and Bichette's D (at least at short) was never his strongsuit.

The Giants have been building their offense over the last year under new baseball boss Buster Posey, adding Willy Adames in free agency, and then Rafael Devers in a blockbuster trade during the 2025 season. Signing Bichette to play second would take this lineup to another level.
